The Data Science Poster Session will be on May 6, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm

at FDS in Kline Tower (13th floor)

Posters must be submitted no later than April 29th at 4:00pm

Poster Submission Guidelines

Poster abstract, title, and poster are submitted via this website.

  • Submit a text entry with your title and abstract
  • Upload a pdf version of your poster. The poster should be 36 x 48 inch high resolution PDF.  Make sure you open it in Adobe, goto File, Properties, and check the height and width.
    • If you are using Powerpoint, for example, you change the dimensions by clicking Design tab, then Slide Size, and choose 36 x 48. When you Save as PDF, the PDF size will be the same.
    • If you are using Google Slides, click File, Page Setup.
    • Check the resolution of the images on your poster before submitting.  Open it in Adobe and set Zoom to 100%, and make sure it isn't blurry. If the images look fuzzy, try saving the original images in a higher resolution. Depending on how you are making the PDF of the poster, you could try saving your images in some sort of vector graphics format (e.g. .pdf, .eps).
    • When you have the option, avoid using huge blocks of text on black background, or very dark visualizations. This uses a lot of ink/toner.
  • One possible approach to creating the poster is to first finish a draft of the report, and then copy and paste important figures and text from that to the poster. As a rule of thumb, more figures than words is probably best, especially if you will be standing next to your poster and will be able to say the words.

Poster Printing

For S&DS senior thesis posters, the department will print your posters for you before the poster session. You must submit your poster by April 29th at 4:00pm

For FDS-affiliated posters, your faculty advisor will cover the cost of printing, but you will need to arrange for printing with the printer. Here are some resources for printing. Please deliver your printed poster to the elevator lobby of FDS (13th floor of Kline Tower)  no later than 3pm on May 6th.
