Abstract
Andrew began his career in 1985 at the University of Illinois, where he was on the faculty until he joined Yale in 1992. These were very fruitful years for him, as began the research agenda of bringing information theoretic ideas into statistics that has been one of the hallmarks of his career. Moreover, he exhibited significant versatility in his work there, addressing a number of other problems in probability and statistics, information theory, machine learning, etc. This talk will provide an impressionistic view of some of his “greatest hits” from that era.
