Dr. van der Meulen's academic journey includes esteemed positions at institutions such as the University of Rochester, NY, and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, where he served as a Professor of Mathematics until 2002, and currently holds the title of Professor Emeritus.

His contributions to these fields have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Jacob Wolfowitz Prize and the B. Bolzano Honorary Medal.
