Mokshay Madiman has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware since January 2013. His research is primarily in the areas of probability and information theory, but also interacts with combinatorics, functional analysis, and statistics. Dr. Madiman’s work is supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation, including through a CAREER grant.

Dr. Madiman received the B.Tech. degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 1999, and the Sc.M. and Ph.D. degrees in applied mathematics from Brown University in 2001 and 2005, respectively. From 2005 to 2012, he worked at the Department of Statistics at Yale University, New Haven, CT, first as a Gibbs Assistant Professor, then as an Assistant Professor and finally as an Associate Professor of Statistics and Applied Mathematics. From 2014 to 2017, he was also an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, India. He has spent a semester each in visiting positions at the School of Technology and Computer Science at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai; the National Mathematics Initiative at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; the Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering at Princeton University; and the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, Minneapolis. He has also been a long-term visitor (at least a month) at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge (UK), the Université Paris-Est at Marne-la-Vallée (France), the Université Paris-Ouest at Nanterre la Défense (France), and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at Berkeley (California, USA).
Abstract
We present some interconnected stories emerging from research on entropy power inequalities (EPIs) in the last decade. These include a very recent EPI for dependent random vectors obtained in work with James Melbourne and Cyril Roberto; insights into refined properties of the entropy of weighted sums obtained in work with Piotr Nayar and Tomasz Tkocz; and reverse EPIs under distributional shape assumptions obtained in work with Sergey Bobkov.
